It astounds me that public spaces can be boring. With so many great designers around how can it be that when the landscape architect is given the foyer, square, or some other public space to design they seem to think, “well there’s so many interesting things we could do, but hey, let’s just go with … nothing”. It’s great for skateboarding I have to admit. But what about some greenery? These examples above including Martin Place, and Ben Chifley Square are so grey and cold that they are gloomy. I don’t advocate bright colours of anything to out there must surely legislation allows for something a little warmer or god forbid, alive?
